Take Lets Caffe, for instance — a Taiwanese coffee chain that serves lattes with photos of customers' faces printed directly onto their latte foam. Customers submit photos of themselves, which are placed into the coffee machine. The coffeemaker reproduces the photo beautifully with either coffee or cocoa powder, depending on what kind of drink the customer orders. | Join Us Live From Facebook's Mysterious 'New Product' Event Posted: 19 Jun 2013 08:00 PM PDT  A small group of Facebook employees have been working on “something big,” which the social network is set to unveil on Thursday. The press event for Facebook's "new product" will take place at its headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif. To notify reporters about the event, Facebook sent out paper invitations through traditional post — an unprecedented move — in addition to digital versions. In both cases, a coffee stain is prominent on the invites, suggesting that Facebook may be serving up more than just a cup of joe to reporters. HBO confirmed to Mashable on Wednesday that Gandolfini died while vacationing in Rome, Italy. | Apple Scores $30M iPad Deal With L.A. Schools Posted: 19 Jun 2013 04:57 PM PDT  Apple announced Wednesday that it has landed a major deal to sell iPad tablets to the second-largest public school district in the United States. The Los Angeles School Board of Education has approved a $30 million deal to roll out iPads to students in its district beginning this fall. Each iPad tablet will include the "Pearson Common Core System of Courses delivered via a new app," Apple said in a statement. The iPads will also be equipped with iWork, iLife, iTunes and some educational third-party apps. The school district is paying $678 for each iPad, since it includes the pre-loaded educational software, the Los Angeles Times reported. Read more... This is not a new problem, and even as broadband speeds improve, the issue persists. Now a recent report in Gigaom suggests that the cause of your troubles, at least on one major broadband provider, is the result of an ongoing spat between Netflix and Verizon, and the story puts most of the blame on the FiOS Fiber provider.
As the story tells it, Verizon and a major internet traffic transit provider, Cogent, can’t come to terms over who should shoulder the burden for all the Netflix traffic. It’s a lot of traffic. Stitched together, the mosaic makes you feel like you're standing on the Red Planet with the rover. The full-resolution version is 1.3 billion pixels. To put that in perspective, a standard 5" x 7" photo is about 1,500 pixels wide and 2,100 pixels high There are two versions of Curiosity's panorama. The first, embedded below, has been white-balanced to show how the scene would look under Earth's lighting conditions. | Twitter Buys Social Discovery Startup Spindle Posted: 19 Jun 2013 02:25 PM PDT  Twitter has acquired Spindle, a location-based social discovery engine, the two companies announced Wednesday. The terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. Spindle was founded two and a half years ago by former Microsoft engineers with the goal of helping users discover relevant content on social networks based on time and place. The startup raised $2.3 million in funding in late 2012.
"Every time we’ve experimented and looked beyond local discovery, we’ve been amazed by the breadth and quality of content shared on Twitter," Spindle said in a blog post. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) wanted to make a big impression when he voted against a controversial bill to make it more difficult for women to have abortions. He Vined his "nay" vote, making him most likely the first member of Congress to do so. Swalwell was protesting a bill called the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. It would ban abortions after a fetus is 20 weeks old, and is based on the idea that fetuses can feel pain earlier than previously thought. |

Yes it can, per this Vine video recorded earlier this week. Posted by Lucio Amorim, the Vine shows thousands of protesters in the streets of Rio de Janeiro protesting poor public services and corruption in the halls of government. Protests in Brazil started earlier this month in Sao Paulo as a relatively small demonstration against the government's planned rise in public transit fares. Robert Reimann spent more than a week hashing out a plan to boost sales and engagement on the Facebook page for his bike tour business, after being matched with Shane Johnston, a social media marketing consultant from Mashable's Small Business Panel. With Johnston's help, Reimann would launch a contest — along with Facebook ads to promote it — in order to attract more fans and build up an email list of customers, which he would then work to convert into sales. Then the flood started Germany, where Reimann and his business BikeSherpa are based, was hit with severe flooding earlier this month that forced tens of thousands of residents to evacuate. While Reimann's home in Dresden wasn't damaged, he had to help his sister move all her furniture and evacuate from her house along the Elbe river. | Facebook Now Lets You Comment With a Photo Posted: 19 Jun 2013 11:46 AM PDT  Facebook has started to roll out photo comments, a new feature that allows you to comment on posts with images rather than words. Originally built during a Facebook employee hackathon, photo comments are starting to roll out globally on the web as well as the Facebook mobile site. Users can't yet leave photo comments within Facebook's mobile apps, but they are viewable. The feature is expected to come to those apps in a future update.
