The film features the voices of Will Ferrell (who plays villain President Business), Morgan Freeman (as Vitruvius) and Liam Neeson (as Bad Cop). Elizabeth Banks, Nick Offerman and Alison Brie also lend their vocal talents Read more...

Future Navigation May Let You 'Feel' Your Way Around

When the GPS device in your car wants you to make a right turn, a robotic voice says, "turn right" and shows you which way to go on a screen. The next generation of devices, however, could tell you to turn right by letting you "feel" your way around.

Vibrations from a wearable GPS device would give directions with a pattern of pulses that the wearer would feel. Not only does this eliminate the need for maps — which are, ultimately, distracting to drivers — but it would bypass the two most common ways devices display information to accommodate those who have visual or auditory impairments.

The idea comes from Lynette Jones, a senior research scientist in MIT's Department of Mechanical Engineering. She decided to study how sensitive skin is to vibrations, where people are most sensitive and how touch is perceived. Read more...

You apparently can have too much of a good thing.

Ed Carter only wanted to raise $21,000 through Kickstarter to finance a deluxe edition of "Glory to Rome," a board game produced by his company, Cambridge Games Factory. He ended up raising more than $73,000, with pledges from more than 1,600 people.

After that, things started to go downhill for Carter. His Kickstarter campaign had promised supporters they would receive free shipping on their games if they agreed to pick up the games from specific retailers. Carter hoped to develop business relations with these retailers as well as provide an incentive for his supporters. However, shipping the game to 1,600 people isn't exactly cheap, especially when you've received a significant number of orders from Brazil and Australia. Read more...

Airborne laser scanning has revealed the remnants of a vast urban structure in the vicinity of Angkor Wat, a famous temple in Cambodia. The study, which will be published soon in the journal PNAS, follows earlier research that showed Angkor Wat to have been one of the world's most complex preindustrial cities.

Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) is making it easier for archaeologists to explore human settlements in tropical vegetation; previous LIDAR work has found evidence of new cities in Central America, in addition to further enhancing the layout of known settlements such as the Mayan city of Caracol. Physically going out to the ol' ballgame has always been an unmatched sporting experience. More recently, however, fans have flocked to online social platforms to talk trash, post thoughts and generally partake in the fun of spectator sports

Well, fandom's offline and online realms just got married at AT&T Park, home of MLB's San Francisco Giants

The team unveiled its new "@Cafe" this week, distilling the team's online buzz in one physical location for supporters to visit just beyond the ballpark's centerfield wall

The Giants are billing the location as a sports marketing first. It's appropriate the step comes from one of the most digitally creative teams in the world. The team's innovative promotions and social-savvy audience have long led all the major leagues, culminating in the team besting a mid-campaign Barack Obama in Klout cred during its World Series run last fall. The country's Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) is considering banning WhatsApp in the coming weeks, probably before Ramadan, which starts on July 9

The ban is being considered both because WhatsApp communications are allegedly harder to monitor, and because the service cuts into local telecom companies' revenue, since it allows users to send messages over the Internet instead of the telephone networks Read more...

The Bitcoin Taxman Cometh

If I were to write a book and sell a few million dozen copies in my local bookshop, I'd owe the government a cut of that income in taxes. The rules about buying and selling goods in U.S. dollars are well known and reasonably simple to understand. But what if I decided to sell my book online in return for Bitcoins — how much would I owe the taxman then?

No one has any idea. Even though we know there are some 11 million Bitcoins in circulation worldwide, nobody's sure how many users are American; as a result, it's impossible to calculate how much money Washington is losing on transactions conducted using the anonymous digital tender. In a new report out Monday, the Government Accountability Office concludes that if only Bitcoin users were better informed, they'd start paying up. Read more...

However, iCloud Keychain could end up having a big impact on consumer habits. We all know we should use different, hard-to-crack passwords for the many services we use every day, yet few people do so. Kanye West's sixth studio album Yeezus dropped today. Like the title strongly suggests, it draws deep on religious references and an "I Am God" narcissism that only Kanye brings to the table.

June has been out of control for Kanye West, and he's only halfway through it. The frenzy began when he broke his usual press silence to promote his new album, Yeezus — sitting down with The New York Times for an interview that would become known as perhaps his most self-aggrandizing and hilariously quotable one to date.

Less than a week after the article appeared online, Yeezus leaked. The leak wouldn't have surprised the Internet so much had it come from any other musical artist, but Kanye is known for going to extreme lengths — secure external hard-drives to transport music, a limited team — to keep his music on lockdown before its official release date.
